Quindío’s Epic Performance at the National and Paranational Sports Games: Regional History in the Making

This year the Coffee Region hosted the XXII National and Paranational Sports Games, Quindío hosted 15 disciplines.

Oblivious to the problems that arose in terms of non-compliance with the completion of promised scenarios, such as the aquatic complex and the multi-sport coliseum, the Colombian jousts were responsible for turning the department into an epicenter thanks to the performance of athletes from different sectors.

For this opportunity, sportingly he added 8 gold medals, 7 silver and 14 bronze for a total of 29 metals which left the department in box 12 of the medal table won by the extensive superiority of Valle del Cauca.

To highlight the performance of Julieth Alexandra Jiménez Palechor, who in weightlifting achieved 2 golds and a bronze; as well as María Yulieth Pérez Tangarife, a gold medal in badminton and a bronze in the mixed team event. Nor can we leave aside the women’s indoor soccer team, which for the first time was at the top of the podium, as well as handball where its women’s and men’s teams won silver and consolidated their third consecutive games on the podium.

The other golds arrived through José Tomás Nieto Ocampo, in pole vault in athletics; Karen Daniela Parrado Camacho and Carlos Andrés Zorrilla Aguirre, in hapkido; and Aurel Silko Uribe, in triathlon.

For the Paranational Games, held from December 2 to 10, where Armenia was the main venue, the department achieved its best performance and medal harvest.

Were 5 gold, 4 silver and 7 bronze medals for a total of 16 metals and thus remain in box 16 of the medal table that Valle del Cauca also dominated without problems.

The great territorial figures were Adrián Alejandro Mendoza Falcón, who in para-athletics achieved 2 gold metals; as well as David Rivera Castro, in visual bowling. Yeimy Tatiana Echeverri Betancur, in para-athletics, was also present at the top of the podium.
