Quimsa Dominates in Defensive Showdown: 98-75 Victory Over Peñarol

The “Fusión” did a great defensive job and finished with a score shared among its main players. NATIONAL LEAGUE

Quimsa stomped in Mar del Plata. The defending champion chained its seventh consecutive victory, defeating Peñarol by 98 to 75, at the Islas Malvinas Sports Center, to consolidate its leadership in the 2023/24 season of the National League.

Leandro Ramella’s team left its rival below 80 points, but also showed good dynamics in attack so that six of its players finished with double-digit scores.

The MVP of the game was Emiliano Basabe, who finished with 19 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals in 36:08 minutes of action.

Quimsa looked focused at the start of the game, took the lead on the scoreboard and established an 8-point lead (11 to 3) thanks to Fabián Ramírez Barrios. However, his game lost consistency as the minutes passed and Peñarol balanced the proceedings. In any case, the visit won the partial 22 to 19.

In the second quarter it was a balanced process, but Quimsa closed it better based on a greater commitment to defense and a healthy tendency to get the ball to Eduardo Vasirani in the paint. The “Fusion” ended up winning the set 23 to 14 and went into the long break with a lead of 12 points (45 to 33).

In the third quarter, the visiting team lowered its defensive intensity and the game became even again, because Peñarol found some opportunities to convert (especially through Monacchi) and managed to stay in the game. The quarter ended with a victory for the Mar del Plata team by 30 to 23 to get within 5 points (68 to 63) on the scoreboard.

In the last segment, Quimsa was a machine. He recovered his defensive solidity and achieved fluidity in the attack to once again take off in the score and define the game well in advance. And he’s still on a roll.
