Quebec City’s Canac Stadium Renovation Costs Soar to $20 Million

Renovating Canac stadium was supposed to cost $11.35 million, but ultimately Quebec City will have to spend $20 million to renovate its baseball den.

The amount of $11 million was announced in Quebec City’s five-year plan unveiled last year.

After evaluating the possibility of building a new stadium on the Expo-Cité grounds, the Marchand administration chose to renovate this dilapidated facility built in 1939.

Baseball in Quebec is doing very well. We were asked to make the necessary efforts to refurbish this stadium, explained the director of Building Management for the City of Quebec, Jean Rochette, during a plenary session in front of elected officials Monday morning. Mr. Rochette was responding to a question from Councilor Louis Martin.

We are upgrading the stadium, said Jean Rochette.

Minor work began this fall, but major renovations will need to take place over the next few years. The field will not be enlarged, but the City wishes to replace part of the exterior covering, solidify the foundations under the stands and upgrade the lighting system.

We choose either to do an interview so that it “holds” or to do an interview so that it looks good. There, it’s maintenance to make it beautiful.

Canac stadium hosts the main baseball teams in the Capitale-Nationale.

The Quebec Capitales (Frontier League) and the Diamants (Quebec Junior Elite Baseball League) play there.
