The best poster of the weekend in Betclic Elite will have given birth to an intense match. And often confusing. In a Halle Carpentier (Paris 13th) which hosted Paris Basketball in the Championship for the very last time, the capital club defeated, not without difficulty, an Asvel team which, for the evening, had decided to do without Nando de Colo or even David Lighty (92-86).
The absence of the first was cruelly felt in the Villeurbanne ranks, lacking leaders during a first half where, despite the advantage taken at the end of the first quarter (22-24, 10th), Gianmarco Pozzecco’s men had difficulty expressing themselves outside the interior sector (3 out of 7 from three points).
Quite the opposite of the Parisians, in long distance success (10/24, 12 out of 36 in the end), and carried by the doublet formed by TJ Shorts (19 points at 5 out of 17, 10 assists) and Tyson Ward (20 points, 27 evaluation). While they seemed to be perfectly in control of the game, to the point of being fourteen units ahead at the very end of the third quarter (74-60, 30th), the protégés of the Finn Tuomas Iisalo then chained missed shots, lost balls, and defensive approximations, which notably benefited Timothé Luwawu-Cabarrot (17 points) and Charles Kahudi (12). Enough to allow an improbable return of the visitors (76-76, 33rd), and then offer a thrilling end to the game.
While the two teams went blow for blow, the young Nadir Hifi (16 points at 6 out of 14) released two huge shots from his palette (two and three points) which gave his team a four-point lead at 40. seconds from the buzzer (88-84, 40th).
A sufficient advantage for his team to be able to manage the last possessions on the free throw line, and thus obtain a prestigious success which allows him to seize the place of runner-up to Monaco (the two clubs have eleven victories, but with one more match played, Asvel displays one more setback).
