Olympic Silver Medalist Hiroshi Izumi to Become Head Coach of Egyptian National Judo Team

On the 21st, Hiroshi Izumi (41), a silver medalist in the 2004 Athens Olympics in the men’s 90 kg judo division, revealed in an interview with Kyodo News that he will be appointed as the head coach of the Egyptian national team from January next year. He signed a contract with an eye on the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, and expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “I want to teach everything I have and expand the potential of athletes.”

Mr. Izumi, who was born in Aomori Prefecture, moved to Tokyo when he entered junior high school and trained at a private judo school, Kodo Gakusha, and played at Meiji University and Asahi Kasei. She won her first championship at the World Championships held in Cairo the year after the Athens Olympics, and she excitedly said, “I feel lucky to be able to coach in Egypt. I want to enjoy my passion.”

Recently, while working, he has been working to popularize judo at the grassroots level, such as by opening judo classes.
