Olivia Doigo: From Swiss Records to Olympic Dreams in Archery

Archery in the shoes of Olivia Doigo. The archer from La Neuveville is making her place in the elite. At just 17 years old, she recently broke two Swiss records in the under-18 category. The resident of the Neuchâtel archery club improved the reference marks to 18 meters and 25 meters in December. At 18 meters, she even broke the national elite record, but her performance was not approved, given that she is not yet old enough to compete in this category.

And if the watchmaking student seems to be making a name for herself today, it is also because she was quickly touched by a passion for archery. “I started this sport by listening to the stories of my Korean grandfather,” recalls Olivia Doigo. “I thought maybe there was a talent for archery in me,” she explains.

Become one with the rain and the wind

Her recent performances, combined with the lack of competition among the ladies, have earned Olivia Doigo the upgrade to shoot in the elite category this spring, but in a particular discipline: over 70 meters and outdoors. An event that requires a good dose of adaptation, according to Olivia Doigo: “At the youth world championships in Ireland, we had rain and gusts of wind and we were supposed to shoot as if nothing had happened”, image the Neuvevilloise.

Paris and Los Angeles in the viewfinder

Thanks to her recent performances, Olivia Doigo can now glimpse her Olympic dream, which remains her biggest goal. “The Olympics are a bit like my own paradise,” explains the archer from La Neuveville. “I would like to be able to go to the 2028 Games, but I also want to give my best for the 2024 Games.”

Olivia Doigo will now continue to perfect her preparation at 70 meters to try to qualify for the next Olympic Games. This will be played between the months of May and June 2024 during the European Championships and two World Cup rounds. /mne-gjo
