Océanic Bounces Back with 8-0 Victory Against Gatineau Olympics

Following a disappointing performance, the Océanic bounced back in a very good way on Saturday, when it defeated the Gatineau OIympics by a score of 8-0, in the presence of 3,530 spectators gathered at the Slush Puppie Center.

The score is a faithful reflection of the match dominated 43-16 by the Océanic in shots on goal. It was 0-0 after one period when the visitors scored three quick goals early in the second. They added two before the end of the period and three more in the third period.

“I wouldn’t say I’m surprised with how we came out because I know we’re capable of doing it. What frustrates us is that we have difficulty doing it several matches in a row. It’s definitely concentration, not just X’s and O’s. Before the match, I didn’t do any meeting collective. All I asked was to compete,” explains Joël Perrault.

Captain Jacob Mathieu took matters into his own hands with the first two goals plus an assist.

“It’s nice to see your leaders stand up like we saw. I think of our captain who works extremely hard. He was very frustrated with yesterday’s result. We had a conversation, the other coaches and I, alone with him in order to find solutions,” mentions the head coach.

Offensive Festival

Fifteen of the eighteen position players accumulated one or more points. Jacob Mathieu and Maxim Barbashev each have two goals, the others going to Lyam Jacques, Julien Béland, Maël St-Denis and Dominic Pilote.

In the plus and minus column, note the plus 5 of Pilote, plus 4 of Charle Truchon, Mathys Dubé and Charles Côté. Even the newcomer recalled from U18 AAA due to injuries, Benjamin Benoit-Rioux, collected an assist in addition to finishing the game at plus 3.

The only downside was that Quinn Kennedy was injured in the face when he was hit solidly along the boards. He did not return to the game.

“He needed a few stitches, most likely a broken nose. As a precaution, for concussion symptoms, we didn’t take a chance, considering the score as well,” points out Perrault.

Guardians
