CARACAS – As has happened continuously since 1944, the nominations for the “Athlete of the Year Award” of the Circulo de Periodistas Deportivos (CPD) have been revealed, an award given to various figures in Venezuelan sport. In the running to take home the prize are the Italian-Venezuelan Eduardo Saragó who played a fairytale season with his Deportivo Táchira which ended with the victory of the scudetto and the women’s Caracas who with the expert guidance of Enzo Tropiano has secured a new title in the Liga Futve Femenina.
The names of champions of the caliber of Ronald Acuña, Joseln Brea, Yulimar Rojas, Keydomar Vallenilla and others also stand out in the list provided by the CPD.
In this vote, journalists registered in the register of the Circulo de Periodistas Deportivos will have to vote for “Atleta masculino”, “Atleta femenino”, “Entrenador”, “Selección”, “Equipo profesional”, “Manager” and “Entidad deportiva”.
In the category maschile sono in corsa: Ronald Acuña Jr. (baseball), José Altuve (baseball), Luis Arráez (baseball), Javier Castellano (ippica), Willis García (judo), Andrés Giménez (baseball), Pablo López (baseball) , Andrés Madera (karate), José Maita (athletic), Julio Mayora (pesi), Alfonso Mestre (nuoto), Salomón Rondón (calcium) and Keydomar Vallenilla (pesi).
In the women’s category there are 10 candidates: the queen of the triple jump Yulimar Rojas, the cross-country skier and record holder Joselyn Brea, the number one karateka in the world Yorgelis Salazar, the queen of the Vuelta a Colombia Lilibeth Chacón. With them Daniela Bustamente (skating), Paola Díaz (beach tennis), Paola Pérez (swimming), Angie Quintero (skating), Daniela Rivera (sunfish sailing), Elvismar Rodríguez (judo).
The nominees were José Alguacil (baseball), Fernando Batista (calcium), Marvin Blanco (athletics), Gustavo Delgado (ippica), César Farías, Berny Martínez (scherma) and Eduardo Saragó (calcium). Among the squad in corsa are Caracas FC women, Centauros de Caracas, Deportivo Táchira, Gladiadores de Anzoátegui, Leones del Caracas and Marineros de Carabobo.
The national teams that received the nomination are the Vinotinto basketball team, the national epee team, the Vinotinto men’s and women’s football teams.
The federations are football, judo and weights, finally the managers who have the nomination are Jorge Jimenez (football) and Luis Seijas (weights).
