Supporters of Roda JC and MVV Maastricht will not be welcome for the next three years when their club visits its arch rival. The authorities have decided that, writes De Limburger. The reason is the disturbances during the most recent edition between both clubs.

Some of the MVV supporters showed their worst side at the end of last month by leaving a trail of destruction in the Parkstad Limburg Stadium after the lost derby against Roda JC.

Supporters platform VoetbalUltras shared videos via It was also shown how the toilets were demolished in the arch-rival’s stadium.

The authorities have now had enough and away fans will not be welcome at the South Limburg derby for the next three years. “Despite all measures and mutual agreements, we have seen that a group of rioters is causing disturbances,” Kerkrade mayor Petra Dassen said.

“Unfortunately, we have no choice but to take this measure. Very sad, because the real experience of a sporting derby also includes an away audience.” The measure applies to both the matches in Kerkrade and Maastricht. Two hundred police officers are usually needed for matches between the two clubs.

“The police forces that are necessary to manage these football matches are no longer disproportionate,” Mayor Wim Hillenaar of Maastricht adds to his colleague. “And yet destruction continues to be caused inside and outside the stadiums. This can no longer be justified.”

De Limburger writes that Roda and MVV were included in the decision. Both clubs understand the measure. “As a club, we have made every effort to bring fans to the derby. Misbehavior has now led to far-reaching consequences,” MVV said in a response.

“As a club, we believe that everyone must take responsibility. We as a club, the fans, the municipality, the police. It is no longer possible to look away and point. Otherwise, we fear a scenario in which no away crowd will be allowed at all. Then everyone has lost!”
