Niners Chemnitz Takes Lead in Basketball Bundesliga Table: Pursuing German Winning Record

Basketball Bundesliga team Niners Chemnitz took the lead in the table again on the tenth matchday on the way to a German winning record from the previously tied champions ratiopharm Ulm.

The Saxons celebrated their 16th success in a row across all competitions by winning 79:58 (38:26) at EWE Baskets Oldenburg and thus replacing Ulm as the frontrunner.

After four wins in a row against the previously winless Rostock Seawolfs, the defending champions had to accept their second home defeat with 89:107 (52:55).

Chemnitz triumphed in Oldenburg with the self-confidence of a serial winner. Oldenburg didn’t have much to offer against coach Rodrigo Pastore’s team, in which Wesley van Beck became the outstanding player on the floor with 28 points, after three defeats in a row.

Thanks to their success, the Niners are only three more wins short of setting a record streak. The current record for a German team from runner-up and Champions League winner Telekom Baskets Bonn with 18 wins across all competitions dates from last season.

The eagerly awaited big game on Sunday between former champions Alba Berlin and cup winners Bayern Munich was canceled due to the weather. After the onset of winter in Bavaria the day before the scheduled date, there was no longer any possibility of a guaranteed safe journey to the capital in Munich.

The Hakro Merlins Crailsheim had already ended their series of defeats the day before. The bottom team won against newly promoted Tigers Tübingen despite a 26-point deficit 87:84 (28:45).
