The NFL is overshadowed by a strange injury. This time it hits a referee. The Philadelphia Eagles lose a home game for the first time this season, and Taylor Swift’s aura of good luck is fading.
Injuries are a daily occurrence in the National Football League (NFL). At least for the players. In the duel between the New Orleans Saints and the Detroit Lions (28:33), a referee was hit. With painful consequences.
After Alvin Kamara of the Saints fell on the sideline while sprinting after being touched by an opponent, the running back, who weighs almost 100 kilograms, collided with Nick Piazza. According to the Saints, the referee’s kneecap popped out.
The referee – part of the so-called chain crew who operate the 10-yard chain and the down markers on one of the sidelines – screamed in pain. Supervisors and paramedics immediately looked after the injured man, who was then transported from the stadium on a stretcher and taken to a hospital. He is in a stable condition and is being examined further, it said.

The Philadelphia Eagles, meanwhile, lost a home game for the first time this season and have to fear for their home rights in the play-offs five weeks before the end of the main round. After four wins, last season’s Super Bowl participants lost to the San Francisco 49ers in the most important game of the day by a score of 19:42. With now two defeats, the Dallas Cowboys could draw level with the Eagles at the top of the NFC in a direct duel next week. The 49ers are also breathing down the Eagles’ neck with nine wins and three losses.
Swift no longer brings Chiefs luck
The Kansas City Chiefs lost to the Green Bay Packers and suffered their third defeat in the last five games.
