NBA Italian Night: Pacers and Pelicans Secure Semifinal Spots

Two games of the 2023-2024 NBA season were played during the Italian night today also valid as the quarterfinals of the In-Season Tournament. First the Indiana Pacers took to the field against the Boston Celtics, then it was the turn of the Sacramento Kings against the New Orleans Pelicans. Let’s find out how the matches ended.

The Indiana Pacers are the first semi-finalists of the NBA In-Season Tournament, with the hosts surprisingly beating the Boston Celtics 122-112. Thanks above all to a wild Tyrese Haliburton, who achieved his first triple double in his career and effectively closed the game with a 4-point play 1’33” from the siren. With 26 points, 13 assists and 10 rebounds he was the protagonist of the match.

But, as mentioned, it is the action with 1’33” left to decide the games. The match was at 105-105 when Haliburton found the triple and Brown’s foul which was worth +4. Immediately afterwards Tatum does not respond from beyond the arc and, instead, Hield scores from distance following an assist from the usual Haliburton. +7 and match closed with 55″ to go.

The New Orleans Pelicans also fly to the semifinals, defeating the Sacramento Kings 127-117. Here the balance is already broken after a first quarter which sees the Kings even reach +15, but NOP come back, overtake at the beginning of the second quarter and then never look back. In Sacramento, the other triple double of the evening, that of Domantas Sabonis with 26 points, 10 assists and 13 rebounds, was not enough to win, just as De’Aaron Fox’s 30 points were not enough. At home in New Orleans, however, the top scorer is Brandon Ingram with 30 points.
