MotoGP: French rider Fabio Quartararo victim of homophobic insults on social networks

It’s a simple photo where Fabio Quartararo has his head resting on the shoulder of another man and yet it sparked a wave of homophobic comments. In recent days, the 2021 MotoGP world champion has indeed been targeted by a wave of insults assuming his sexual orientation.

The Yamaha rider wanted to share a photo the day after Christmas with Ethan Doux, also from the family of the luxury watch and jewelry brand Doux Joaillier. The latter appears there with a drink in his hand, and the two men laugh together.

In the caption, the pilot writes: “What were we talking about? “. The two men seem to meet regularly as evidenced by several publications on social networks, which notably testify to collaborations between Fabio Quartararo and the luxury brand.

But faced with a torrent of insults, and as reported earlier this Thursday The Gazzetta dello Sport, Italian media, Fabio Quartararo decided to delete the photo in question on the social network X (formerly Twitter). If he left it and it is still visible on Instagram, it is no longer possible to read old comments or post new ones.

Winner of the MotoGP world ranking in 2021, the Frenchman only finished the 2023 season in tenth place, far behind Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati). The next season will begin in February 2024.
