Monty Williams’ Unclear Game Plan for Detroit Pistons

It is difficult to define the game plan that Monty Williams has. Beyond the results – disastrous with 17 consecutive defeats – the big question is not knowing what the coach wants, and that is that the first month and a half of the 2023-24 NBA season has clarified practically nothing.

At the beginning of the season he left Jaden Ivey out of the quintet by surprise, then he gave him a few starts and then he was left out again. Williams is not clear backcourt and now, as reported by James Edwards III of The Athletiche frontcourt It also faces changes with the return to the court of Bojan Bogdanovic.

The Croatian player debuted last week after overcoming an injury to score 22 points off the bench, making him the Pistons’ top scorer. Seeing his efficiency and weight in the team, the Detroit head coach would have decided that he would be a starter sooner rather than later.

Without there being a date for the change for now, Monty would plan to use Bogdanovic as a three against big quintets, leaving Jalen Duren and Isaiah Stewart inside, while against teams that played small the Croatian would start as a ‘four’. It remains to be seen if this change helps the Pistons take off somewhat in a campaign that for now is tremendously tough for them.
