Moaning noises disrupt live broadcast of the 2024 European Football Championship draw

NOS Nieuws•vandaag, 21:13

The draw ceremony for next year’s European Football Championship in Germany has been disrupted by groaning sounds, which many viewers could not miss. It seemed to involve loud, sexual moans.

The sound could be heard for some time in the broadcast from the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg. When UEFA top official Giorgio Marchetti noticed the noise in his commentary, it stopped, but then the noise returned a few more times.

Watch (and listen) how the draw was disrupted several times:

Moaning can be heard in the background during the draw for Euro 2024

Some people in the room seemed to have great difficulty keeping a straight face.

British prankster

It is not clear how the sound could be played. It always seemed to be the same sound. British media attribute the incident to a self-confessed prankster, one Jarvo.

He is also said to have struck earlier this year during a football match at the BBC. Then the same sounds were heard for several minutes. That sound turned out to be coming from a cell phone which was deposited at the studio.

During the draw, the Netherlands was paired with France, Austria and a play-off winner at the European Championship. This could be Poland, Wales, Estonia or Finland.

The Dutch start on June 16 with a game in Hamburg against the play-off winner. This will be followed by a match against France in Leipzig on June 21. The last group match will be played by the Netherlands against Austria on June 25 in Berlin. The European Championships can be followed live on NOS from June 14 to July 14.
