Meet the Nominated Athletes for the 2023 Siegen-Wittgenstein Athlete Election

Siegen-Wittgenstein From Torben Blech to Sebastian Marburger to Niklas Wörster. We present the men nominated for the 2023 athlete election in a short portrait.

Our newspaper’s 2023 athlete election runs until January 12th. This time there are a total of 32 favorites on the list. To make your choice easier, we present the individual candidates and teams in a short portrait. We start with the 14 nominated men (in alphabetical order).

Torben Blech (athletics, TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen): First cheering to the heavens, then saddened to death. In the indoor season, the pole vaulter puts himself in position with his third DM title in a row, comes fourth at the European Indoor Championships, and also jumps the standard for the World Championships in Budapest. Never-ending illnesses and chronic problems with the take-off foot slowed the Gosenbacher down in the second half of the year.

Kevin Geiselhart (swimming, SG Siegen): The Siegen resident has been the swimming figurehead in the district for many years. Now of the same age, Geiselhart returned from the European Short Course Masters Championships in Madeira/Portugal with three titles, winning the M30 over the 200 meter distances in the breaststroke, freestyle and individual medley styles.

Joshua Hartmann (athletics, ASV Cologne): Lost in the preliminaries and relay baton – the big hit at the European Championships failed to materialize for the sprinter from Bad Berleburg. But with a fabulous German record of 20.02 seconds, the 24-year-old was one of the shooting stars of 2023 with his first German championship title. Hartmann also won gold with the German 4×100 m relay at the 2023 European Games.

Jonas Hoffmann (Triathlon, Race-Extract): The Hademer achieved its international breakthrough in the long distance in 2023. At the “Ironman Nice” Hoffmann qualified for the world championships held there, where he finished as the third-best German in 19th place. Shortly before, 13th place at the 70.3 World Championships in Lahti/Finland meant a great success.

Lukas Kasusch (athletics, LG Kindelsberg Kreuztal): The 17-year-old from Wittgenstein is one of the “climbers of the 2023 season” at LGK. At the German U20/U18 Championships in Rostock, the sprinter won his first DM medal over 100 meters in third place in the U18 class and ran a new best time of 10.82 seconds. He finished fourth in the 200 meters in 22.02 seconds – also a new best.

Dominic Klein (Ju-Jutsu, Judo Association Siegerland): The Kredenbacher cannot defend his world championship title because he was seriously injured at the Youth World Championships. Before that, the model athlete from JV Siegerland won the U21 European champion title in the fighting class up to 85 kilograms.

Marvin Lödi (Ju-Jutsu, Judo Association Siegerland): A third athlete from JV Siegerland fought his way to the fore in 2023: Marvin Lödi from Windeck secured his first DM title in the U18 class up to 55 kilograms in Bernau. He later came fifth at the World Cup and ninth at the European Championships.

Sebastian Marburger (para cross-country skiing, SK Wunderthausen): The former top cross-country skier from Wittgenstein mastered his fate after a serious accident with sporting success as a para-athlete. The 26-year-old from Bad Berleburg, whose leg had to be amputated, became world champion in January 2023 as a member of the German relay team. For this, Marburger and his relay team were recently honored as team of the year in the 2023 para-athletes election.

Steffen Mengel (table tennis, Post SV Mühlhausen): The year 2023 will be a very special one for the Holzhausen player because after surviving an injury odyssey he will find his way back to his previous level of performance and will thus also consolidate his regular place in the Post SV Mühlhausen Bundesliga team. Towards the end of the year, the 37-year-old celebrated tournament victories at the WTTV feeder in Portugal and Düsseldorf.

Paul Reum Schüssel (Trialsport, MSC Freier Grund): The Thuringian, who now lives in Neunkirchen-Struthütten and is a friend of MSC trial ace Sophia ter Jung, is looking forward to a strong year in 2023. In the overall ranking of the German Trial Championship, only series champion Franz-Xaver Kadlec was better, and he was runner-up great success for the 23-year-old, who is also doing well internationally.

Jonas Schreiber (Judo, TV Freudenberg/SU Annen): The powerhouse from Oberfischbach is also plagued by bad luck with injuries. The heavyweight won the silver medal in the plus 100 kg class at the German Championships and was also nominated for the World Championships in Doha/Qatar, but all further plans failed due to injuries.

Christian Textor (MTB Enduro, MTB Siegerland): In 2023, the Würgendorfer will continue to be one of the best in his field in MTB enduro sport. The southern winner country finished the global Enduro World Series in 19th place overall – better than ever before. Textor has been riding for the UCI MTB Enduro Team YT Mob since 2023.

Manuel Tuna (Trail Run, TSG Helberhausen): When it comes to ultra trail running, Manuel Tuna is usually at the forefront. At the 24-hour trail run “TrailDorado” in Arnsberg, which is also the German championship, the man from Helberhausen is once again the fastest in the M55. He also comes second in the overall standings.

Niklas Wörster (sports skittles, TG “Friesen” Klafeld-Geisweid): Niklas Wörster won gold, silver and bronze at the U24 World Championships in Düsseldorf, making him one of the most successful German participants at this World Cup. At the beginning of the new year, the Geisweider will move to Bundesliga club CfK GW 65 Rösrath. lgr/ds
