Meet Micah Godano: The Rising Star Archer Hitting European Podiums

In life it can happen that you hit a target without having aimed it, and it is often not a question of luck: those who let themselves be guided by virtue and aim for ambitious and distant horizons are able to bring everything they desire to the distance of an arrow shot, even maybe what you didn’t think you wanted.

That is how Micah Godano has hit Liguria: landed at Tigullio archers for a love other than Archery, with their colors he extended towards the sea the passion that erupted in his native Fossano. And from there she continued to move forward, crossing every boundary.

In 2021 the first European medal arrived, gold, this year two more continental podiums, two bronzes, in the European Field Championships and in the Grand Prix, in the first international events as a Senior, including an experience this summer in the World Cup. Born in 2001, after having already hung many national titles under his belt since Junior, it is the whole of Italy that he longs to continue representing. With increasingly wider gazes: Liguria has brought it within range almost without realizing it, and from there it is admired while one shot after another aiming at the entire Old World reduces it to a target as big as a dartboard.

Can you tell us where your passion for Archery came from and when did you start practicing it?

“My passion was born by chance one summer day in 2013. After building a bow with a stick I asked my father to look for a company and go and try shooting”

Among the latest major targets hit are two continental bronzes, at the European Field Championships and the European Grand Prix…how did you get this far and what did you feel while competing to win these competitions?

“I wasn’t sure I would win these two medals, but in any case I gave my all to do well, I felt quite happy. This means that sacrifices pay off sooner or later”

What has been the greatest thrill of your career so far?

“My first gold medal at the European Championship in 2021, very unexpected result”

How often do you work out? How do you keep your body in shape?

“I train almost every day except for one day which is a break, to rest and not overload myself with work”

What are for you the values ​​of sport, in general, and those of Archery in particular?

“Fairness and respect for the opponent are the main values ​​for me, to be obviously used also in Archery”

Can you tell us a secret…revealable? A practice, a ritual, a motto that helped you become a young champion?

“No secret, it’s important to find a balance between sport and everyday life and do everything calmly, having fun without forcing anything”

A passion beyond Archery?

“Car and motorcycle”

What is your relationship with Liguria? What do you like most about the region?

“My relationship with Liguria is nice, I came to shoot for the Tigullio Archers because my girlfriend lives there and I was also asked to complete the teams. There isn’t one thing I like more, in reality I like all of Liguria”

Is there a figure, from the world of sport or in general, who inspires you?

“There is no figure of great importance, any athlete is a source of inspiration for me”

What advice would you give to a child or young person approaching Archery for the first time?

“To rely on a good coach who follows him in every step, to not be in a hurry to score points or win because his moment will come, to work consistently and believe in his abilities without ever giving up even if a match went badly”

What are your plans for 2024?

“I would like to be called up for away games with the national team so that I can compete on the international stage in 2024 too”
