Manchester City wins the Club World Cup against Fluminense

City made history this Friday by becoming the first English team to win the Premier League, Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup in the same year.

For their first participation in the Club World Cup, Pep Guardiola’s men made short work of the Brazilian club Fluminense by dominating this final from start to finish (4-0). The English left Marcelo and his teammates no chance from the first seconds of the match. Julian Alvarez opened the scoring in the fortieth second, the fastest goal in the history of the competition. After a poor clearance from Marcelo, Nathan Aké tried his luck by shooting from the edge of the penalty area. The ball landed on the right post of Fabio’s cage, which benefited Julian Alvarez who pushed it into the goal with his chest.

An own goal from defender Nino then allowed City to make the break (27th). The Brazilian wanted to block a cross from Phil Foden but he sent the ball into the back of his own goalkeeper’s net. The Englishman also scored the third goal of the match (72nd). On a strong cross from Julian Alvarez, Foden victoriously took the ball with his toe.

Manchester City definitively folded the match with a double from Julian Alvarez (88th). The Argentinian received a superb assist from Kyle Walker and followed up with a very good feint on midfielder André then a cross shot.
