Luge riders will begin the second round of the World Cup in Whistler on Friday

Latvian luge riders will start the second stage of the World Cup season on Friday at the track of the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Games in Whistler.

First, the first race for men’s singles will start at 23:00 Latvian time, and the second race will be half an hour after midnight. TV6 broadcasts the World Cup live.

Gints Bērziņš will start with number 22, while Krister Aparjodas will have number 25 out of 28 participants of the competition.

In the season opener last weekend in Lake Placid, Aparjod was sixth in both the main event and the Sprint Cup. Bērziņš ranked 16th.

In the previous season in Whistler, Aparjods was fourth, while Bērzins took eighth position in his debut at this track.

Men’s doubles and women’s doubles crews will also play matches on the first day of the competition. The first trips will start at 2, and the second – at 3.45.

Eduards Ševics-Mikeļševics/Lūkass Krasts will start with number nine, while Mārtiņš Bota/Robert Plūm will have number 18 among 20 crews. In the first stage, Bots/Plūme won the fourth place in the main competition and won the Sprint Cup, while the other Latvian two-man crew took 19th place in the stage.

Last season, Bot/Plume were sixth in Whistler, while Sevics-Mikelševics/Krast finished ninth.

In the women’s doubles competition, Viktorija Ziediņa/Selīna Zvilna will start as the last, 13th, but Anda Upīte/Sanija Ozoliņa will not participate in this stage, although they completed training runs.

Ziediņa/Zvilna will start in Whistler for the first time in his career. In the first stage of the season, Upīte/Ozoliņa and Ziediņa/Zvilna ranked seventh and eighth, but in the Sprint Cup the Latvians exchanged places.

On Saturday, the women’s singles competition will be held, where Latvia will be represented by Franceska Bona, who competed in the Nations Cup, as well as Elīna Ieva Vītola, Kendija Aparjode and Sigita Bērziņa. The stage will end with a team relay.

104 athletes from 15 countries have applied to compete in Whistler. The 2025 World Championship will be held on this track.

The next stage of the World Cup will be held from January 5-7 at the German track in Vintenberg, while the European Championship will be held from January 12 to 14 as part of the fourth stage of the World Cup at the Eagles track in Austria.

After the competition in Austria, next from January 26 to 28, the world championship will be held on the German track in Altenberg, the fifth stage of the World Cup will be held there at the beginning of February, followed by two stages in Oberhof, and the last two stages of the cup will take place in Sigulda at the end of February and the beginning of March.
