Luca D’Andreis of Osimo Wins Gold at Italian A1 Beginners B Judo Championships

Osimo rejoices from the PalaPellicone in Ostia, where the Italian A1 beginners B judo championships took place. The Osimo athlete Luca D’Andreis of the Sakura Osimo Judo club, in the 66 kilo category, won four matches (all for Ippon) and wore the gold medal around his neck. The other athletes from the Marche competing were Letizia Facchini of Polisportiva Senigallia (fifth in the 70 kilos), Davide Canter of Fazi Pesaro (ninth in the 73) and Alyssa Gammella of Kdk Recanati (twelfth in the 63 category).

Luca started judo at four years old, only for four months, then a change of heart at a young age made him change sport. At six he took up judo again with more awareness without ever giving up and immediately participating in the various competitions at regional and national level for pre-competitors. During his Covid he always trained, at home during the lockdown in his garage, where his parents had set up a cheap tatami, then outdoors and then back to the gym, without having any more opportunities to play official matches . He achieved significant results in the national competitions valid for ranking scores, reaching automatic qualification in the A1 championship. The goal he set himself for the championship was the podium but a lot of determination and desire to demonstrate his skills led him to the splendid victory in judo.

This medal is the result of a great and constant work of the young man and his technical teacher Tiziana Lazzari who, together with the vice president Beniamino Franciosa, Alessio Frontalini, Priscilla Quattrini, the whole club and his tatami companions, hoped and rejoiced for this title finally arrived.

Even the mayor Simone Pugnaloni of Osimo congratulates the young new judo champion: “On my personal behalf and that of the whole city I express my heartfelt congratulations to Luca. A round of applause to the Asd Judo Sakura Osimo where Luca grew up and trained. My thanks go to them for their professionalism with all the boys and girls who sign up every year to learn about this discipline and grow.” Who knows, it might also be a stimulus for many other young people to take up this sport.
