Long live the passion of athletes!

What’s a shame? If you deal with the logic of the “Bild” newspaper – which you sometimes have to do, unfortunately, because it is no small player in the big game of top German sport – then the track and field athletes are the ones who will be without a World Cup medal in the summer Budapest, exactly that.

But what is the shame in the fact that the javelin thrower Julian Weber was 88 centimeters short of a medal and the walker Christopher Linke, who set a German record in his race, was 23 seconds short of a medal?

What is the shame in the fact that these people subordinate their lives to a passion almost day after day and then come fourth and fifth in competition with the most passionate people in the world?

Those who achieve something like this should be proud and certainly not ashamed of the fact that they have endured the exploitative production process, which is also often the case in top-class sport in Germany with the medal as the expected added value.

The only people who have to be ashamed are those who supposedly support these athletes, but who probably don’t want to re-discuss and define what top-class sport should actually be in the 2024 Olympic year.
