Lions blank Gigantes and tie for second place

SANTO DOMINGO.-Tyler Alexander and four other relievers had five hits in the victory of the Leones del Esgido by a six-run shutout against the Gigantes del Cibao this Thursday night in Round Robin 36 of the Dominican Baseball League in which disputes the Banreservas Cup dedicated to Onfalia Morillo.

Rookie Héctor Rodríguez drove in three of the six runs while going 2-for-5, with a double to lead the Lions’ offense.

This was the second consecutive defeat for the Gigantes in the Round Robin, while the Leones, with a 1-1 record, tied with Licey, which lost in San Pedro de Macorís.

The Giants, who had five hits, have gone eleven innings without scoring runs in the first two games of the recently started All Against All.

Tyler Alexander (W, 1-0) in 5.2 innings, allowed three hits, with two walks and two strikeouts against 21 batters faced.

The shutout was completed by Emmanuel Ramírez (0.1), Chester Pimentel (1.0), Domingo Tapia (1.0) and Gerson Bautista (1.0).

Paolo Espino (P,0-1) faced 25 batters over five innings, with six hits, three earned runs, three walks and two strikeouts.

For the Lions; Héctor Rodríguez 5-2, double, three RBIs; Yairo Muñoz 4-2, scored; Jonathan Guzmán 3-1, scored, double.

Junior Lake 1-for-3, scored, two walks; Yamaico Navarro 1 for 4, walk; Franmil Reyes 5-1; Michael Pérez 4-1.
