Liniers Celebrates Unconventional Promotion to Primera B

“We’re in B!” shouted a famous fan who lamented his team’s relegation. “We are in B,” tweets the Liniers community manager, with a totally different connotation: those from San Justo celebrate their promotion, a month after their last game. Yes, just as he reads: The Bulldozer of the West rises in category, without playing.

The Liniers Social and Sports Club confirmed through its social networks that it will play next season in Primera B, benefiting from the point in the regulations that establishes the need to have 22 teams in said category. For this reason, the club from the Buenos Aires town of San Justo celebrated the “promotion”, despite losing the final of the reduced Primera C against Midland.

The possibility of this promotion was already being considered since last week, since after the restructuring of the promotion tournaments with the merger of D with C, Primera B had a tournament with 22 teams stipulated.

In the regulations of the first C of 2023, it was established in point 2.2 that “in the event that one or more teams are required to integrate the 1st Division ‘B’ in the 2024 Season, the team or those that obtained the best positions in the Final Table of Positions 2023, excluding the 1st, 2nd and 3rd of the Final Table of Positions 2023 and the Winner of the ‘Reduced’ Tournament for the 4th promotion”.

In this season of the first C, the champion Excursionistas, the runner-up San Martín de Burzaco and the third, Laferrere, were promoted.

The fourth promotion went to Midland, which defeated Liniers (2-0 and 3-1) in the reduced finals.

“Cele” received this benefit from the regulations for having been fourth and best placed in the general table below those promoted.

In addition, Sportivo Italiano, sixth in the general table, could join if San Miguel (Primera B) defeats Douglas Haig (Federal A) today in the final for the last promotion to the Primera Nacional.
