LOSC validated its ticket for the round of 16 of the competition after its victory this Thursday evening against the Faroe Islands club (3-0).

Lille qualified for the round of 16 of the Europa Conference League by beating Klaksvik (3-0) at home on Thursday, fulfilling their evening objective.

Three penalties from Yusuf Yazici (29th), Angel Gomes (86th) and finally Edon Zhegrova (90th+6) were enough for Lille to be happy at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy. First in group A, the Mastiffs therefore advance to the round of 16 of C4, the third European level, which will take place on March 7 and 14, 2024.

The northern club continues its European adventure and its first successful part of the season with its fourth place in Ligue 1 and its series of nine matches without defeat in the league – fourteen including the C4. Lille will pass a test of a completely different scale on Sunday (8:45 p.m.) when they welcome Paris Saint-Germain, at the top of the championship.

In the meantime, they fulfilled their evening objective by definitively retaining first place in their group, threatened at the same time by Slovan Bratislava, who finally lost at home against Olimpija Ljubljana (2-1).

We should not trust the large score because Lille did not control the entire match, far from it, in the humidity of the Stade Pierre-Mauroy, half empty for the reception of the Faroe Islands club.

Klaksvik advantage in the first period

Under his beret that he has become accustomed to wearing since the arrival of the cold, Paulo Fonseca undoubtedly felt happy to see his players return to the locker room with their short advantage (1-0), as Vito Mannone is used in the Lille cages.

Lucas Chevalier’s understudy first won a face-to-face encounter (12th), then he flew a first time to deflect a powerful strike from Vegard Forren (18th), a second to repel a very distant free kick. well hit by Arni Frederiksberg (41st). In the meantime, he was saved by his crossbar during an attempt by Heini Vatnsdal with a header (24th).

At that time, the Mastiffs were already leading the score thanks to a very well struck penalty by Yusuf Yazici, master of the art of mistimes. But how fortunate this fact of play was for Lille! Rémy Cabella greatly exaggerated a little push from Odmar Faero behind his back to get from the referee what he was looking for. From the first minute of play, Lille could have opened the scoring and undoubtedly had a much easier match, but Samuel Umtiti found the post.

In the second half, this time it was Virginius who was held back by Joannes Danielsen, and Angel Gomes who doubled the lead. Edon Zhegrova joined this improvised training session in the exercise after another foul against Rémy Cabella (90th + 6). Losc completed its fifth consecutive match without conceding a goal and finished the group stage undefeated. Contract fulfilled.
