Leyre Villamediana Achieves Remarkable Seventh Place in Spanish Judo Championship

Leyre Villamediana has just achieved a more than remarkable seventh place in the final phase of the Spanish Judo Championship of absolute category played at the Navarra Arena Pavilion in Pamplona.

The Arousan athlete competed in the category of less than 63 kilos forming part of the Galician team. The quality and demand of the event is clearly illustrated by the number of other 16 candidates classified by their best ranking in communities such as Andalusia, Asturias, the Balearic Islands, Cantabria, Galicia, Madrid, Navarra, Valencia and the Basque Country.

In the first rounds, the Vilagarcia native performed fights showing a high level that were accompanied by victories. In them she combined good work in standing judo with effective floor progressions. However, in her advancement she encountered a very powerful obstacle in the quarterfinals, at which point gave in to his rival from the Valencian community.

Already in the repechage, the Vilagarcia native recovered, obtaining a firm victory by strangulation against the Asturian Elisa Fernández, with whom she had already fought in the western sector phase of this Spanish Championship. In her progression towards the third step of the podium Leyre ran into the Navarrese María Ramos, before whom she fell, finally achieving a more than notable seventh place.

A final result, in the senior category, that acquires more value being his first junior year and that must be added to the gold in the western sector qualifier last November.
