LeBron James Named MVP as Los Angeles Lakers Win In-Season Tournament

The Los Angeles Lakers won the first in-season tournament. Following the game against the Indiana Pacers, LeBron James was named MVP of the tournament.

The 38-year-old received 17 of the 25 votes, beating teammate Anthony Davis (5) and Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton (3). 20 selected media representatives were eligible to vote, and there were also a total of five votes for fans.

In the final, the forward scored 24 points (10/21 FG), grabbed 11 rebounds, but also committed 6 turnovers and was clearly in the shadow of Anthony Davis, who had a 40-20 game. Instead, James received his trophy for his performance over the entire seven games of the in-season tournament, all of which the Lakers won.

During this period, James put up 26.4 points, 8.0 rebounds and 7.7 assists on 56.7 percent from the field and 60.6 percent from the three-point line.

“The MVP award isn’t that important to me,” James said afterwards. “It’s about us coming together and winning this thing. This was the first edition and records are there to be broken, but we are the first to win this tournament. Nobody can beat that.”

In addition to the MVP, there will also be an All-Tournament Team, but the NBA has not yet published the results.
