Lourdes Carlé (175th) had the illusion of taking revenge for what had happened a month ago in the final of the Santiago Pan American Games. However, she again encountered the same difficulty. One that has a first and last name and that every time she has it in front of her she complicates it too much: Laura Pigossi. The Brazilian, despite having finished playing her semifinal match four hours later, played a great game and won in the definition of the WTA Argentina Open 6-3 and 6-2 a 1h32m.

The 23-year-old from Deorense never managed to find good feelings: she suffered from the back of the field, made a lot of mistakes and did not adapt to her rival’s infallible tactic which consisted of not forcing the lines but playing deep. Carlé also had problems when it came to maintaining the service. So much so that he only added 43% of points with the first serve and managed to win it twice (one per set). In that sense, Pigossi broke her serve six times, while she also failed to take advantage of all the chances that were presented to her: she broke in three of the eight chances generated.

Despite the defeat, he rises in the ranking
While Pigossi rose to 108th place and approached his best position (100th), Carlé will also see an increase in the ranking, given that he added 93 units to reach 525 units and be placed at 140th. He will equal his historical mark.
