Chris Landman was the first Dutchman since 2017 to qualify for the Lakeside final on Saturday. The Gelderlander was too strong for Jelle Klaasen in the semi-final match of the World Cup of darts association WDF with 5-3.

The 42-year-old Landman fell behind 1-3 in sets against Klaasen, who was three years his junior, but fought back well. ‘The Countryman’ did not give away another set in the remainder of the match.

Landman threw an average of 89.22 per three darts and used 35.42 percent of his doubles. Klaasen compared this with an average of 87.92 and a double percentage of 26.32.

In the final, Landman will face the Belgian Andy Baetens on Sunday evening in Frimley Green, England. The number one on the placement list defeated the Swede Dennis Nilsson 5-2 earlier in the day.

Landman is the first Dutch finalist at Lakeside since Danny Noppert in 2017. De Fries lost to Glen Durrant. The tournament was then still organized by the darts association BDO, but since last year it has been regarded as the WDF World Championship.

Also a Dutch finalist among the women

Klaasen wrote Lakeside in 2006. ‘The Cobra’ defeated Raymond van Barneveld (7-5) in the final, who became world champion four times at the BDO.

There is also a Dutch finalist at Lakeside among the women. Aileen de Graaf defeated four-time winner Lisa Ashton 3-1 and will meet the nineteen-year-old English Beau Greeves in the final on Sunday.

In 2009, Francis Hoenselaar was the last Dutch Lakeside finalist for women. ‘The Dutch Crown’ then won her only world title.

The PDC darts association’s World Cup starts next Friday at Alexandra Palace in London.
