Korean Badminton Junior Team Dominates 2023 Thailand Junior Championships

Promising Korean badminton players swept five individual events at international competitions.

The junior national team swept five gold medals in the finals of the U-19 individual competition at the ‘2023 Thailand Junior Championships’ held in Pathum Thani, Thailand on the 10th (Korean time). Seon-jin Lee (Gwangmyeong North High School) defeated Hyun-woo Cho (Seoul Physical Education High School) 2 to 1 (18-21 21-18 21-15) in the men’s singles final, and the twin sister player’s younger brother Min-seon Kim (Chiak High School) also defeated Thailand’s Cho Hyun-woo (Seoul Physical Education High School) in the finals of the women’s singles. They defeated Sarunrak Vitidsarn 2 to 1 (20-22 21-14 22-20).

In the men’s doubles final, Lee Seon-jin and Lee Jong-min (Gwangmyeong North High School) defeated Park Geon-hoo (Gwangmyeong North High School) and Yun Ho-seong (Seoul Physical Education High School) 2 to 1 (17-21 21-10 21-19). Women’s doubles Kim Min-seon and Yeon Seo-yeon (Hwasun High School) won a complete victory over Kim Do-yeon (Daesung Girls’ High School) and Kim Mi-ju (Hwasun High School) 2 to 0 (21-8 21-19).

Seon-jin Lee and Min-seon Kim won two gold medals, winning the men’s and women’s singles and doubles. Lee Jong-min and Yeon Seo-yeon also took the top spot in mixed doubles, also winning two gold medals. Kim Min-seon and Lee Seon-jin also won two gold medals in the competition along with Kim Min-seon.

Under-17 (U-17) men’s doubles Kim Min-seung (Jeondaesa University High School) and Lee Hyeong-woo (Gwangmyeong North High School), under-13 (U-13) men’s doubles Kim Seung-ju (Seoul Jeongok Elementary School) and Park Jun-su (Changwon Daebang Elementary School) and mixed doubles Choi Jeong (Seoul Ahyeon Elementary School) ) – Kang Jeong-won (Wanwol Elementary School) also added a gold medal. The national team won 8 gold medals, 12 silver medals, and 14 bronze medals in this competition.
