KLM is canceling dozens of flights on Sunday due to expected snowfall. The airline wants to create space in this way so that the other flights can be handled properly. Schiphol has the snow fleet ready.
A total of 65 return flights will be canceled. “We are aware that this will cause inconvenience to our passengers. They were informed on Saturday and rebooked on the next available flights,” a spokesperson said.
According to her, this only concerns flights to European destinations. Flights to further destinations will continue to operate.
Schiphol’s snow fleet is ready when the snow starts to fall on Sunday afternoon. This concerns a stock of vehicles that can use sweepers to clear snow from the runways, taxiways and aircraft parking spaces. Office staff will also help with this.
Schiphol expects snowfall to start locally around 3 or 4 p.m. Winter conditions are likely to last until 11 p.m.
Also cancellations with other companies
KLM and Schiphol warned earlier on Sunday of cancellations and delays due to winter weather. Schiphol’s website shows that more airlines have canceled flights. Flights from Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines are also cancelled, although these cancellations may also have other causes.
Transavia flies in the Netherlands from Eindhoven, Rotterdam and Schiphol. The company expects little impact from the winter weather at the first two airports. According to a spokesperson, the impact may be greater at Schiphol, but Transavia has chosen to fully implement the flight schedule.
This could mean that flights are delayed, for example, because a runway needs to be cleared of snow. If it is necessary to cancel flights, Transavia will inform all travelers about this, according to the spokesperson.
