Killian Hayes’ Future with the Pistons: What Lies Ahead?

By Pierre-Andréa Fraile | Sports journalist

Back in the graces of Monty Williams for a few days, Killian Hayes saw his name appear on the transfer market at the same time. A rather paradoxical situation which has just been clarified by an insider close to the Pistons.

On a collective level, he clearly has nothing to rejoice about. After all, the Pistons went winless in the entire month of November, and didn’t start December in a better way. The individual case of Killian Hayes is more nuanced. Sidelined for five matches in his team’s major five, he has regained his place a few days ago. This, while being the subject of a worrying revelation.

Killian Hayes finally spared to the Pistons?

Faced with the disastrous results of the franchise (2-18) at the start of the season, the Detroit staff seems likely to liven up the transfer market quite quickly. Hayes was recently announced as a potential candidate for departure. A rumor which has gained even more momentum in recent hours, while the Pistons found themselves linked to the file of a star by Bobby Marks:

I wouldn’t be surprised if the Pistons took the temperature in the Zach LaVine case and sought to find out what his market is.

Given his salary ($7.4M this season) and his upcoming end of contract, Hayes would appear to be an interesting bargaining chip for his superiors. However, the latter would not yet be ready to shake up their workforce according to Omari Sankofa II of Detroit Free Press :

Sources indicate Pistons management is reluctant to enter panic mode — meaning changes in the front office appear unlikely at this time. With three quarters of the season remaining, there is still time for the squad to gain cohesion and for the wheel to turn.

The return of (Bojan) Bogdanovic should especially make (Cade) Cunningham’s life easier and give the team the necessary firepower to be more competitive in tight ends of games.

It is therefore not yet time for change in Michigan. Enough to give the French rear the time to prove its worth, and why not secure his spot on the roster in a new position.

While the defeats keep coming for the Pistons, their leaders are reportedly waiting for Bojan Bogdanovic to return from injury to judge the true level of the team. Killian Hayes would therefore have nothing to worry about his future… for now.
