José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes will be the new president of the Higher Sports Council

The former Minister of Culture and Sports José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes will replace Victor Francos as president of the Higher Sports Council (CSD), according to Cadena SER.

Rodríguez Uribes, 55 years old, is the fifth president of the CSD since 2018 after María José Rienda, Irene Lozano, José Manuel Franco and the aforementioned Víctor Francos.

His appointment reflects a new commitment by the Government of Pedro Sánchez for a more political than sporting profile, although he knows the Council well from his time as Minister of Culture and Sports between January 2020 and July 2021.

The change in the presidency will be announced at the press conference after the Council of Ministers. In this way, a new period will begin in the CSD after Víctor Francos held the position for only six months in which he had to deal with first-dimension brown cases, one of them above all: the ‘Rubiales case’.

Francos resigned last Thursday and the only justification he gave publicly was that he did so for “professional reasons.” Close sources spoke of “tiredness” to explain the decision.

Rodríguez Uribes has a Doctor of Law from the Carlos III University of Madrid and also has a Law Degree from the University of Valencia, and until this appointment he held the position of Ambassador of Spain to UNESCO.
