When the Corriere dello Sport asked Vincenzo Santopadre, now ex‐coach of Matteo Berrettini, if Jannik Sinner could one day be put at the level of great Italian athletes like Alberto Tomba (skier) or Valentino Rossi (motorcycle pilot), the Italian coach tempered.
“The end of Jannik’s season with a bang no doubt suggests so. But I dare say that to stand alongside these sacred monsters, he will have to play at this level for several years in a row. I think and believe that this will be the case. Jannik deserves it, as does his staff. Vagnozzi, Cahill, Ferrara and everyone on the Sinner team play the sport the right way. I hope he can follow in the footsteps of the greatest Italian athletes. »
