Italy Dominates the First Day of the Para-Archery World Championships in Pilsen

The first day of the Para-Archery World Championships in Pilsen, in the Czech Republic, goes to the archives. Italy flies to the top of the qualifying rankings in the women’s recurve with Elisabetta Mijno, the Azzurri also performed well in the compound and in the women’s W1. Tomorrow the last qualifying arrows for the Olimpico and W1 men, in the afternoon the mixed team preliminaries.

THE RESULTS OF THE WOMEN’S OLYMPIC – First place for Elisabetta Mijno at the end of the women’s recurve qualifications. The Italian athlete, also among the able-bodied national team, scores the best score after 72 arrows with 628. Vincenza Petrilli finishes seventh with 589, for Veronica Floreno the points are 582 which are worth ninth position. For Petrilli the first opponent will be the Korean Jo, for Floreno the obstacle will be the Indian Pooja, while Mijno will face the American Sternfeld.
In the team competition Mijno and Petrilli are first in the standings with 1217 points which are also worth the new world record and are already in the quarter-finals.
THE RESULTS OF THE COMPOUND – In the compound the Chinese Xinliang Ai takes the world record from Alberto Simonelli by flying to first place with 709 points, two more than the Italian’s previous record. Among the compounders of the Italian national team, the best is Matteo Bonacina with fourteenth place thanks to 686 points, his first opponent on the scoreboard is the Dutch Klaasen. With 677 Giampaolo Cancelli is thirty-fourth, who in the first elimination round beats the Uzbek Yusupov 138-135 and in the second round he will face the Indian Swami. Christian Seneca concluded the qualification in seventy-fourth position with 629 points but was eliminated by the Taipei archer Kang 137-133.
The men’s team formed by Cancelli and Bonacina is eighth with 1362 points and admitted by right to the round of 16.

In the women’s compound the best of the Italians is Maria Andrea Virgilio with twelfth place (671), Eleonora Sarti is seventeenth with 664, while Giulia Pesci finishes twenty-second (656) and in the first qualifying round she beats the Ukrainian Malyk 125-123, reaching her teammates in the second round. These are the pairings: Sarti-Asgari (IRI), Virgilio-Choi (KOR), Pesci-Stretton (GBR)
Sarti and Virgilio are fifth as a team with 1335 points and will challenge Thailand in the round of 16.
Seeking the podium in the mixed team will be Virgilio and Bonacina, seventh in qualifying with 1357, and directly qualified for the round of 16.

THE RESULTS OF W1 – In the women’s W1 race Asia Pellizzari finishes the qualification sixth with 608 points, while her partner Daila Dameno is ninth with a score of 608. In the round of 16 Pellizzari beats the American Otto 117-106 and flies to the quarterfinals where she will meet the host Brandtlova, Dameno leaves the scene, defeated 124-114 by the British Kingstone.
The two Italians will also take part in the team competition starting from third place (1188 points) and the semi-final match against the Czech Republic.
