Investigation continues after the death of two people who presented gastrointestinal symptoms in Cañazas

Interdisciplinary team of Ministry of Health (Minsa), visited the community of Caimito, in the town of Higo, district of La Mesa, to carry out the epidemiological investigation which will determine the risk factors and possible causes of death of two people (one under 9 years of age and an adult over 76 years of age), who presented gastrointestinal symptoms.

13 people reside in this community, of which 6 presented health complications5 received care in a health facility, two minors are currently being held at the Dr. Luis “Chicho” Fábrega Hospital in the Pediatric Ward in stable condition.

Ricardo Chong, regional epidemiologist, highlighted that progress is being made in the investigations, complying with due process and awaiting the results of the tests carried out. He maintained that water samples were taken that is consumed in this place (the results of the tests are pending), the use of pesticides was verified, the place was toured verifying the health standards.

For his part, the Dr. Alex Sánchez, Regional Head of Public Health, indicated that recommendations were provided to the community such as boil water before consuming itmaintain cleanliness when preparing food, maintain the cold chain, be careful when storing food.
