Introducing Pickleball: The Growing Trend in the Tennis Federation of the Valencian Community

Reading time: < 1 minute

Last Friday, December 15, at the Extraordinary Assembly, it was approved to introduce a new discipline, increasingly famous, within the Tennis Federation of the Valencian Community: pickleball. In addition, the Pickeball Committee has been created that will lead the development of this modality in our community.

This sport was born in 1965 in the United States and today it is a sport that is growing more and more around the world.

It is a paddle sport that combines elements of tennis, paddle tennis, badminton and table tennis. It can be played with two or four players hitting a ball over a net.

It is an easy sport to learn and very entertaining, with fast rallies, which makes it, if possible, more attractive for all ages. The small dimensions of the court (13.41m x 6.10m) also make this sport viable, since it can be played both indoors and outdoors.

The rackets are special, since they are solid blades made of wood or light materials such as composite and the ball is made of solid plastic, hollow and with holes.

The federation will develop the Autonomous Pickleball Circuit throughout 2024 as well as the Autonomous Championship. During the week of January 15 and coinciding with the Absolute Championship of the Valencian Community, the FTCV will hold a Pickleball day open to the public.
