Internazionale dropped points in Serie A for the first time in more than a month on Friday. With substitutes Denzel Dumfries and Davy Klaassen, the leader drew 1-1 at Genoa in a match interrupted by fireworks.

After just over fifteen minutes of play, the match in the Stadio Luigi Ferraris was stopped for a few minutes after supporters of the home team set off fireworks. Visibility was particularly poor due to the enormous smoke development.

Just before half time, Marko Arnautovic gave Inter the lead. The former FC Twente player tapped in a rebound after Nicolò Barella’s shot hit the post.

Genoa leveled deep into injury time in the first half. Radu Dragusin headed home from a corner kick. Inter had a number of chances to score 1-2 in the second half, but Arnautovic and Francesco Acerbi failed to give their team the victory.

At Inter, Dumfries came on eleven minutes before the end and Klaassen got some playing time in injury time. Stefan de Vrij remained on the bench with the ‘Nerazzurri’. Kevin Strootman had a starting place at Genoa and was substituted after an hour of play.

Napoli also loses points

Despite the draw, Internazionale remains the leader in Serie A. Coach Simone Inzaghi’s team is five points ahead of number two Juventus, which has played one match less.

Earlier in the evening, Napoli lost points at home against Monza: 0-0. The reigning national champion can be found in seventh place in the rankings.
