Innerhofer, bad fall. He goes to hospital by helicopter, what happened at the SuperG- Corriere.it

The Italian ski world is worried about Christof Innerhofer. The great speed veteran was in turn the victim of a bad fall on the «Stelvio» in Bormio, perhaps, on a men’s level, the hardest and most selective track of the World Cup. The South Tyrolean fell in the final part of the super-G (of which he was world champion in 2011 in Garmisch): in a long curve to the left, after reaching a speed of 113 hours, he lost his balance and ended up inexorably in the safety nets.

The impact

The impact was violent and Christof even hit a pole on his way. After a few minutes he stood up with a bleeding face and began touching his knees. The toboggan then arrived on which the Italian was loaded to be taken to the area where he was hooked to the helicopter cable that would transfer him to the Sondalo hospital. The worst fear – a broken knee, as unfortunately happened on Thursday 28th in the free ascent to the Austrian Marco Schwarz (season over for him and green light for the Swiss Marco Odermatt in the race for the overall World Cup) – seems to have disappeared: Innerhofer would have reported only a cut on the calf, probably caused by a ski edge. But even possible muscle damage from an injury is no small thing, recalling what happened to the Norwegian champion Aksel Lund Svindal in 2007 in Beaver Creek (he was forced into a long inactivity due to damage to a thigh).

The Azzurri’s Bormio mission

It is hoped that this time the “bill” for the 39-year-old Italian, who also won a silver and a bronze at the World Championships, the same medals won at the 2014 Games, will not be high: Christof has already had too many injuries in a career that it was often broken up by the stops. Inner’s fall ends in the worst possible way a “Bormio mission”, this time a bitter one for our jet men (best result was Mattia Casse’s sixth place in the downhill) and characterized, in the super-G, by terrible results: Dominik Paris slipped by new (too much aggression in the approach of a curve after 8 doors), Casse was out after just 15 seconds, the others were extras with only Pietro Zazzi, twenty-ninth, in points. Up there Odermatt tore everyone apart (98/100 gap to the Austrian Haaser, who had run a great race, even 1”31 to the Norwegian Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, Shiffrin’s boyfriend). The World Cup already seems to have a master: it is the same one who has held it since 2022 and who is flying towards the trio, with the side dish of the specialty ones.
