Ingo Froböse: “Muscles are the enemy of fat”

Ingo Froböse is something like Germany’s top fitness explainer. The professor of prevention and rehabilitation in sport at the German Sport University in Cologne has been trying to encourage Germans to exercise more and clear up sporting misunderstandings for a long time. This year he wrote the book “Muscles – The Health Makers”.

TIME ONLINE: Mr. Froböse, a book about muscles. Why?

Ingo Froböse: Because muscles have too bad an image. You immediately think of musclemen and bodybuilders, but hardly anyone recognizes the real meaning of muscles. People who lose a lot of muscle mass – and there are currently a lot of them – suddenly find their body in a completely different, worse situation. That’s why I wanted to emphasize the importance of muscles not for appearance or our physical performance, but from a health perspective.
