INEFI Achievements in Physical Education and Sports: Field Renovation, Teacher Training, and National Sports School Games

SANTO DOMINGO.- The National Institute of Physical Education (INEFI) showed important achievements during the year that ends with the field renovation program, delivery of props in public and private educational centers, teacher training, as well as the celebration of the X Barahona 2023 National Sports School Games.

Under the direction of Alberto Rodríguez, the INEFI carried out arduous and uninterrupted work in favor of physical education and sports in schools throughout the country.

As the central work of the year’s work, the INEFI carried out, last November, the X Barahona 2023 National Sports School Games that were held in that southern city and which had San Juan de la Maguana, Azua and Bahorucowith the participation of more than 3,500 athletes, who participated in 20 sports disciplines.

Likewise, the INEFI brought sport to the most needy sectors with the program “INEFI with the Neighborhood”, who visited the neighborhoods of Santo Domingo and the provinces in the interior of the country every Sunday, bringing 3×3 basketball, vitilla and volleyball, chess and other sports, in addition to medical operations, to the neighborhoods throughout the Dominican Republic.

Court renovations

The programs to renovate fields and deliver props – often carried out in unison –, carried out throughout the national territory, left the public amazed and thousands of teachers and students who received with joy and satisfaction the sports equipment and spaces to sports practice.

The INEFI impacted hundreds of public and private schools in which courts were intervened, many of which were modified so that, in addition to basketball and volleyball, badminton was also practiced.

The executive management of this decentralized organization put all its effort into ensuring that the fields were correctly painted and complemented with the placement of new boards and meshes. In addition, props were distributed for the practice of baseball, basketball, volleyball, soccer, chess, athletics and recreational activities, among others.

Rescue baseball stadiums

In addition to remodeling courts in educational centers for the practice of basketball, badminton and volleyball, INEFI also worked hard to rebuild and repair some baseball and softball stadiums in various regions of the country.

With an investment of 32 million pesos, the grounds of the Juan Bautista school (La Zafra) were renovated, where the Norma Díaz League also operates. A Model Little League Center will be built there.

In the month of July, INFEI and the Major League organization, the New York Yankees, carried out a complete remodeling of the sports park of the emblematic Oratorio María Auxiliadora high school, which included four baseball diamonds, next to the basketball courts. The work was the result of an agreement between both institutions.

The INEFI also began work on the school baseball park at the Francisco del Rosario Sánchez high school in San Juan de la Maguana.

School sports tournaments

INEFI also sponsored school tournaments throughout the country. In March, the School Baseball Festival was held, with the participation of schools from all over the country.

The school athletics tournament was held in the month of April with athletes from all over the national territory.

Another achievement was the rescue of the school bowling tournament, held at the Sebelén Bowling Center, an event that had not been held for several years and that for the first time had the participation of public sector schools.

The Minibasket Convivio recently concluded, organized by Fedombal, which was supervised by the immortal of Dominican sports, Fernando Teruel, among other prominent national basketball leaders.

In that contest, students who made up 38 teams from the 32 provinces saw action.

Regarding the sport of bat and ball, the INEFI also sponsored the IV Nelson Cruz U10 National Baseball Tournament, in which more than 1,200 children participated in 76 teams from all over the country who saw action in the tournament for players under 10 years, as well as the School Baseball Festival held in March.

Signatures of various agreements

The INEFI work program also included the signing of agreements with various sports and social institutions, such as agreements with sports federations and academies.

Among the most renowned are the INEFI-New York Yankees agreement, with which both institutions committed to carrying out development and training events in physical education and, in particular, in the discipline of baseball.

INEFI and the National Special Olympics Committee (CNOE) signed an inter-institutional agreement, through which both institutions committed to promoting sports that involve athletes with some psychomotor deficiencies.

Likewise, agreements were signed with other organizations such as the Duartiano Institute, EDESUR, Hogar Crea, Colegio Dominicano De La Salle and several sports federations such as judo, soccer, swimming, chess, karate and baseball.

Teacher training days

The INEFI and the Latin American Association of Sports Management (ALGEDE) held the VIII Latin American Congress of Sports Management and the First National Congress of Physical Education and School Sports in which several national and international experts in sports management and direction presented.

One of the speakers was the Spanish Manel Valcarce, doctor in Physical Activity and Sports, graduate in Physical Education, and has a diploma in Business Sciences and a Master in Sports Administration and Management.

In addition, on instructions from President Luis Abinader Corona, and with the purpose of training its teaching staff, INEFI managed 235 scholarships for master’s degrees and diplomas, through the National Institute for Training and Training of Teachers (INAFOCAM), 200 of those places They were for “Masters in Physical Education and School Sports Management”, intended for teachers appointed in the public sector.

INEFI also held two days of teaching support during 2023, a day of evaluation and improvement of the processes of physical education teachers in their classes.
