Indonesia to Co-Host U-20 World Cup in 2025: A FIFA Wish?

Recently, the national football-loving public has been shocked by the news that Indonesia will advance as the host of the U-20 World Cup.

Collaborating with Singapore, Indonesia, which has just successfully hosted the U-17 World Cup, has volunteered to co-host the U-20 World Cup in 2025.

Indonesia’s desire was even officially recognized by the Singapore football federation, FAS. Via their official page, fas.org.sg (4/12/2023), the two countries agreed to move forward in the bidding process to host the event in two years.

However, it turns out that Indonesia’s desire to host the U-20 World Cup does not only come from within the country. After further investigation, it turns out that FIFA had a role behind Indonesia’s application to hold this world-class celebration.

This was acknowledged directly by the Minister of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Indonesia, Dito Ariotedjo.

Through information uploaded by the TikTok account football On December 6 2023, the minister revealed that the President of world football expressed his desire for Indonesia to again host the age group World Cup.

However, in his explanation, Indonesia was asked by Gianni Infantino to collaborate with Singapore as a co-host, to avoid frictions that might occur as some time ago.

“What I know is that (hosting the U-20 World Cup) was one of the requests of the FIFA president because he saw the success of the U-17s. We see it as strategic enough to embrace Singapore,” said Dito, expressing the wishes of the FIFA president.

If Indonesia’s progress to host the U-20 World Cup is FIFA’s wish, then it is very possible that the U-20 age group event will again be centered in Indonesia.

The potential for this to happen will certainly be very large, considering that the person with the intention, namely FIFA itself, has asked Indonesia to be the host.

This means, in two consecutive editions, Indonesia will hold two world-scale events, namely the U-17 World Cup this year, and the U-20 World Cup in 2025.

It seems like the atmosphere that Indonesia will agree to host the U-20 World Cup in the next two years is getting stronger, right?
