Ratcliffe is the chairman and chief executive of chemicals group Ineos, a company he founded in 1998 that has become a global giant in the chemicals sector. His meteoric rise in the wealth rankings came in May 2023, placing him second on the Sunday Times Rich List, with a fortune estimated at £29 billion (€33.5 billion). The tycoon began his career at Esso before founding Ineos, using high-yield loans to acquire unwanted businesses from companies such as BP, transforming Ineos into a major player in the sector.

In addition to his investments in the business world, Ratcliffe already owns sports teams such as OGC Nice in France, the Swiss club Lausanne, as well as a third of the Mercedes Formula 1 team.
