Havana’s Athletes Shine in Cuba’s 2023 Best Athletes List

The inclusion of several residents of the capital among the best athletes in Cuba in 2023 fills the great sports family of Havana with satisfaction and pride, and confirms that our wonderful city continues to be a
fertile land of champions.

Last Monday, December 18, Inder announced the prestigious list – emanating from the votes of journalists, managers and officials – and for fans of the capital’s sports it was gratifying to find the
names of about a dozen Giraldillo athletes among those chosen.

In fact, seeing that Greco player Luis Orta was selected as the best male athlete already gives the Havana fans plenty of reasons to feel unlimited and justified joy, especially because the
performance of an athlete who has proven his worth in the most important international events of his discipline.

Another Greco-Roman wrestling specialist, Oscar Pino, was also recognized, being included among the ten most outstanding. He is joined by those who received mentions for being gold medalists in San Salvador 2023 and Santiago 2023: Orlando Polanco (judo), Daniel Grégorich (greco wrestling), Yusneylis Guzmán (women’s wrestling), Alejandro Valdés (wrestling), Reydi Cardona ( rowing), Carlos Ajete (rowing) and Andy Pereira (table tennis), in addition to the triple jumper Cristian Nápoles, who deserves a mention for having been
bronze medalist at the XIX World Athletics Championships in Budapest 2023.

In another of the categories in which a competitor from Havana stood out was in the Non-Individual Event category, where the mixed double table tennis team, made up of Jorge Campos from the capital and Daniela from Matanzas, distinguished themselves.

Robiel Yankiel Sol could not be missing from the respectable list, whose planetary record and world title – among other good results – assured him a top place as the most outstanding of the year among para-athletes.

Finally, to provide more reasons for joy, the Wushu Chinatown of Havana was also chosen as one of the best community projects in the country in the year that will say goodbye in a few days.
