Goran Dragic Announces Retirement After 15 Seasons in the NBA

Goran Dragic and the NBA are over. We learned this Saturday that the Slovenian leader – aka the Dragon – is officially hanging up his sneakers after 15 seasons in the Big League.

The news was announced by Shams Charania of The Athletic. Goran Dragic was without a club since his last stint at the Milwaukee Bucks and even if there were still (small) rumors about a possible return to Miami, the Slovenian finally decided to call it quits.

After 15 NBA seasons, Goran Dragic is retiring and will play a farewell game in Slovenia in August. The one-time All-Star and Most Improved Player of the Year played 946 NBA games for the Heat, Suns, Rockets, Raptors, Nets, Bulls and Bucks. pic.twitter.com/YaRNqmprn3

Arriving in the NBA in 2008 as the 45th draft pick, Goran Dragic went through Phoenix, Houston, Miami, Toronto, Brooklyn, Chicago and finally Milwaukee. He revealed himself individually during his second stint with the Suns, notably winning an MIP title in 2014 as well as a place on the All-NBA Third Team after a campaign with 20 points and 6 assists. But it was in Miami that he had his best years, with a first selection for the All-Star Game (2018) and participation in the NBA Finals in the bubble in 2020, during which he was unfortunately injured.

To all this, we must obviously add his exploits in the national team. Among them, there is EuroBasket 2017, where Goran Dragic truly engaged Dragon mode to take Slovenia to the supreme title alongside a very young Luka Doncic. We recall that before the NBA, between 2004 and 2008, Dragic also played in the Slovenian championship (which he won) as well as in Spain.

Goran Dragic will be remembered as a fighter on the pitch, as an intelligent player and above all as a super talented leader. Long before Luka, it was the Dragon who magnificently represented Slovenia. He will be honored there next August, during a well-deserved jubilee.

Oh Goran ????????????

What a damn player, what a competitor. He will have been a blast throughout, and a highly appreciated teammate (except in Toronto).

Happy retirement Mr. Dragic! ❤️ https://t.co/kydcyklBys
