The Goierri KE basketball section reports on the well-deserved victory achieved by its Goierribus women’s participation team against Saski Axular from Donostia, last Sunday, in Aldiri. It was the third match of the second phase and it ended with a 53-28 score in favor of the locals. «Our players had a great start to the game, managing to gain an 8-point lead over their rival in 3 minutes and bringing the score back up to 10-2. The San Sebastián team called a time-out, after which things did not change. Our team, maintaining a tough defense and a fast attack, managed to increase the difference to 18-6. The visitors called a timeout again for the 8th minute, but with everything and with that, the first quarter ended with a 22-6 in our favor,” they say. «During the second quarter, the game was even between the two teams, with more shooting errors on our part and less dominance on the rebound. But we maintained a great defensive work, which allowed us to reach the break with a 34-14 lead,” they highlight. “In the third quarter we also managed to win the set 11-4, again, deploying a strong defense and a great attitude, despite beginning to suffer from a lack of freshness in the attack and fatigue in the body,” they say. “In the last quarter we continued the same dynamic and kept our distance, with some players who gave everything, showing an attitude that deserves all our applause and had its reward, a well-deserved 53-28 on the scoreboard,” they say.
Close defeat of the major
The Goierri Almacenes Usabiaga national first-class men’s team did not have the same reward, losing the match played against Navasket on Sunday in Pamplona by a tight 73-68. «Either of the two teams could have won the match, both in the lower part of the classification. Our rival started the game better, we reacted and were 5 points ahead at halftime. But we were not very successful in the second half, despite having multiple shots both inside and outside, we did not manage to score, the locals were 9 points ahead of us with two and a half minutes left in the game, but in our DNA it does not exist the word surrender and with 50 seconds left we were 1 point ahead. With 12 seconds left, we were 4 points behind, with possession of the ball on our front wing, but we lost it, made a foul and that was it. With 8 players that we had compared to 12, we cannot ask for more,” they point out.
