Germany’s basketball stars are looking forward to returning to Cologne

“This is a great opportunity for us as a team to play in Germany against a team as strong as France,” said national coach Gordon Herbert (64). It was excellent to start with such an “outstanding” encounter.

The team around Schröder and the Wagner brothers Franz (22) and Moritz (26) are returning to the hall, where there were unforgettable experiences in the preliminary round of the 2022 home European Championship on the way to bronze. “It was incredible, a fantastic atmosphere, and we’re really looking forward to it again,” said Herbert.

Basketball fans will probably get their money’s worth in the Henkelmännchen, and not just by looking at the German stars. France could start with NBA sensation Victor Wembanyama (19).

According to his own statement, the rookie from the San Antonio Spurs definitely wants to take part in the “home” Olympic Games in Paris next year and would then join the team in preparation. The 19-year-old had decided not to take part in the World Cup.

The Summer Games will take place in the French metropolis from July 26th to August 11th. Germany has qualified as world champions and is taking part in the Olympics twice in a row for the first time in its basketball history. In 2021 in Tokyo, after reaching the quarter-finals, they ended up in eighth place. (sid/bc)
