Germany U17 in the hunt for historic World Cup victory

Germany in World Cup fever! Our U17 fought its way into the final against France. And is on the verge of a historic triumph. Boys, get the trophy!

We have never been U17 world champions. In 1985, Germany made it to the final, losing 2-0 to Nigeria. Now it’s all about the title in Surakarta, Indonesia, on Saturday (1 p.m. / live RTL, Sky and in the BILD live ticker).

However, the World Cup victory would not pay off financially for the young stars. According to BILD information, the DFB will not pay out any title bonuses to the players.

The reason: In this age group, money should not be a (superficial) motivation. First of all, it’s about fame and honor – there’s still enough money to be earned in a later career. An approach that definitely makes sense. The DFB only pays title bonuses from U21 tournaments onwards. A bonus of 35,000 euros per player was recently agreed upon for a U21 European Championship triumph.

But even without the coal incentive, the U17 talents, who became European champions in June, are in great spirits. Sensationally and with a lot of team spirit, the team of coach Christian Wück (50) eliminated the USA in the round of 16 (3:2), Spain in the quarterfinals (1:0) and Argentina in the semifinals (3:3, 7:5 nE).

The semi-final against Argentina (7:5 nE) on Tuesday in particular turned into a mega thriller – with six goals, a last-minute shock and a thriller in the penalty shootout.

Before the big finale, the mood in the team is relaxed, everyone is full of conviction. Also coach Wück, who said in the BILD interview: “We as a coaching team have trust in the team and the team has confidence in themselves. These two factors brought us to the European Championship title and will now also help us to become world champions.” And further: “As with every final, the chances are 50:50 – the form on the day will decide.”

Football Germany keeps its fingers crossed!
