Nastasja Schunk, who was injured for a long time, secured the women’s title at the German Tennis Championships. The 20-year-old won the final in Biberach against Stephanie Wagner 6:3, 6:2. Schunk was in the main draw for the first time at a Grand Slam tournament at the French Open and Wimbledon in 2022 and had made his way into the top 150 in the world rankings. However, she was then stopped by a persistent shoulder injury and required surgery.

“Winning this title after such a difficult time is really good,” said Schunk after the final. “That gives me a lot of self-confidence and is a great motivation for the new season.” After a year’s break, she only made her comeback in October. In Biberach, Schunk prevailed in three sets in the semi-finals against number one seed Noma Noha Akugue.

In the men’s category, in the absence of the top German players, the unseeded Patrick Zahraj surprisingly won the title. Zahraj, who is not among the top 100 in the German rankings, won the final against Daniel Masur, former number 149 in the world rankings, 7:6 (7:3), 7:5.
