Germany strongly represented: Success for judoka from the district in the U23
Talent Patrick Weisser from TUS Bad Aibling was nominated by the German Judo Association for the European U23 Judoka Championships taking place in Potsdam (we reported). The young Aiblinger started in the weight class up to 66 kg.
It started well: Weisser had a bye in the first round and therefore won this round without a fight.
In the second encounter he had a “real” opponent. This is how it went on the mat against Hahik Martirosian from Ukraine. Weisser defeated this with two small scores (Wazaari) for a large outside sickle (Osoto gari) and a subsequent deep shoulder throw (Sode tsuri komi goshi).
In round three it was against Aydin Rzayev Azerbaijan onto the battlefield. The game initially started well. Patrick Weisser was able to counterattack well, but fell behind after a self-dropping throw (Sumi gaeshi) from the Azerbaijani. However, when a counter-spin from Weisser seemed promising and worth scoring, the judges ultimately did not give him the points and after another small score in favor of his opponent, for a low shoulder throw (Sode tsuri komi goshi), the fight was lost.
Patrick had to go to the consolation round of the European Championships.
There he stood out to Marco Valerio Feliziani Italy opposite. Here too, Patrick started with commitment, but was surprised by a shoulder throw (Seoi nage) from his opponent, fell behind and ended up in a hold by the Italian. This fight was also unfortunate for him, as he had previously received no rating from the judges for a good throw (Sasae tsuri komi goshi).
Patrick Weisser was eliminated from the tournament with a good seventh place:
“The placement is actually not bad, but today there was more potential. I should have been a little more lucky in the individual rankings, then I could have finished further up the field. But it doesn’t help and I have to be content with my seventh place,” said the U23 judoka. “I would like to thank my coaches for the nomination, the trust they have shown and the excellent support. It was a great experience to be able to represent Germany at the European Championships!”
