The Galicians Maia Freire, from Club do Mar, and Xulia Otero, from CB As Neves, were proclaimed Spanish champions in women’s doubles, under-13 category, after an impeccable performance where they did not concede a single set throughout the tournament.
The new national badminton monarchs led a harvest of seven medals in total for the representatives of Galicia who appeared in Oviedo for a new record edition of the Spanish Championship “Se Busca Campeón”, in which 150 athletes from all over the country participated.
Freire and Otero also achieved medals in the three modalities in which they competed separately. Xulia was second in the women’s individual event, in which Maia won the bronze medal.
Already in mixed doubles, Freire competed alongside Magno Salas and both won the subtitle, while Otero and Xoel Álvarez finished in third place on the podium.
Back to the women’s doubles, Mariña García and Alexia Pérez, from CB Tui, finished in bronze after reaching the semifinals of the competition, the same result recorded by Xoel Álvarez and Antón González, from CB Athlos, in this same men’s category.
